Caterpillars and Apples

This week we adopted a monarch caterpillar from Sam's grandma's class (Robin Gannon) and we have been watching him grow daily.  We fed him milkweed and he looks like he is getting ready to enter the next stage of develpment.  It was fun reading books about these fascinating critters and acting out all of the stages.

We also had a great time with our apple study.  We sorted them by color and size, found specific features about each one and made delicious applesauce.  We also described apples by color, texture and taste and created some great apple art.

Learning about our families

This week we focused on our families.  We listened to books about all different kinds of families, created graphs when questions were posed like: How many children are in your family? Who is the oldest child ?Who is the youngest child ?Does your family have a pet?

It was great seeing so many families at our Open School NIght.  Thank you all for taking the time to visit.  I hope the slide show gave you a pretty good picture of our first few weeks of school.

Next week we will celebrate the amazing apple crop that we have been enjoying.  If you would like to send in a few apples next Monday that would be great.  We will be sorting and classifying them, graphing them by different attributes and making something yummy to eat.

Having fun with shadows on these sunny days!

Making Friends

This week we continued learning about each other and finding out about our families.  We made a graph showing the number of children in each family.
Speaking of families, we look forward to seeing you at Open School Night next Wednesday from 6-7.  Check out your child's art work and see a slide show of the first few weeks of school.
