January Thaw

This week we started our nutrition study.  We made a rainbow of fruits and vegetables and enjoyed hearing about The Little Red Hen when we studied about grains.  We also talked about our favorite dairy products.  Next week we will be trying out some recipes.  We will start off with some fruit smoothies.  If you are able to send in some berries, bananas or some plain or vanilla yogurt on Monday or Tuesday that would be great.
We are also looking for some crunchy vegetables (peppers, carrots, celery, broccol) to sample with a dip.

Speaking of food, preK is also included in the" I love East Montpelier Day " -Friday, February 12th and you are welcome to join in the special lunch at 11:30. Please call to reserve a place if you are interested.

Another date to save is Wednesday, Februrary 17th-- our school Celebration of Learning.  Our class will have some yummy treats to share as a culmination of our nutrition unit.

We are transporting our tricycles to an indoor storage space.

Ice and Snow

This week we explored the properties of those winter companions :ice and snow.  Check out the pictures to see what our scientists discovered.  We also looked at animals that live under the snow and above the snow.  The book Over and Under the Snow by Kate Mesner was a wonderful resource for our study.
Starting next week we will start a unit about nutrition.  If you have some old seed catalogs or magazines with food pictures please send them to school.

Playing the Mirror Game

How can we make ice melt?  We used hot water, cold water and salt to see what was most effective.

We brought in some snow to see how long it would take to melt indoors.  We also noticed what the melted snow had in it at the end of the experiment.  Ask your child what was observed.

Our playground was transformed!

BRRR!

This week we did lots of indoor activities due to the ice and wind.  As you will notice in the pictures, we had a grand time.  We continued reading Mo Willems' Pigeon stories and acted out our favorite parts.  In math, we have been doing lots of counting and the afternoon group did an amazing job of finding combinations of 5.

Glad to be back!

Students seemed very happy to be back with their friends in class as you will notice in the pictures.
We had a great time exploring some of Mo Willem's books-- Knuffle Bunny, Knuffle Bunny Too and Knuffle Bunny Free.  We will be enjoyiing his other  very engaging books next week.

Everyone is waiting to hear what is happening next to Knuffle Bunny!

It is evident that we have authors and illustrators right in our midst who love to share their work.

When the weather outside was too cold we made snowmen inside.
