Doing our part for peace

This week we were given the task of counting peas to create packets for every student in the school.  That is a lot of counting!

Thank you for sending in the forms for our June 1st Celebration.  We look forward to seeing you all at 5:30 in the gym.  You can drop off food in the cafeteria.

Starting a garden and checking out the birds

This week we noticed some significant growth in our plants.  The bean plants have taken off and the pumpkin seeds, cukes and apple seeds are sprouting.
We are also bird watching and saw a Scarlet Tanager right in a tree overlooking our playground.  That was pretty exciting.  Students are doing a great job identifying some common birds and learning their sounds and some facts about them. Our playgound is looking more beautiful due to our planting.  Check out the pictures.
A note about our June 1st celebration has gone home.  Please return the form so we can make our plans.  Students have been practicing their songs and dances.

Enjoying the sun finally!

We loved exploring the woods and discovering the spring flowers and the insects that are now present.
We also have been listening to bird calls and we will focus on birds of Vermont over the next few weeks. See if your child can identify some birds in your yard.  If you have any pictures or books to add to our study please send them in.

Spill the Chips--This game used 2 sided chips and we put 5 in a cup and spilled them out.  We were able to see at a glance combinations of 5.  You can play this game using coins at home.

Counting chips to match the number.

On the 10th of May we collected 10 items to bring to the rug.  We counted our own collection and moved on to count our classmates' collections.
